Hi,
Here is my case :

server - Fedora - FC2
clients ( total 15 ) - FC2 (KDE as Desktop)

1.Now i want to implement centralized authtication so all user   logins can be managed at server.
2.is it possible to autheticate squid users using NIS?
3.is it possible to store browser book marks ( Mozilla or Firefox)  using LDAP at server?

Can you please provide step by step details or Web links so i can do it.
Is it better to use NIS or LDAP?

- Thanks for your time

LDAP is far better that NIS for this requirement. You can make squid to authenticate users from LDAP database. for the browser bookmark thing I dont have any idea as of now I'll look for some info and let you know once find some useful info. moreover NIS is deprecated AFAIK.

Hi,
Sivam
at url
http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/linux-adv/ldap.htm
mentiond as
"Create a database directory

Fedora LDAP defaults to putting all databases in the /var/lib/ldap directory. For the example, create a dedicated example.com directory owned by the user ldap. (The ldap user is always created during the RPM installation process.)

[root@bigboy tmp]# mkdir /var/lib/ldap/example.com

[root@bigboy tmp]# chown ldap:ldap /var/lib/ldap/example.com"

But here , that is not happening , i installed all packages and yet  i am unable  to  find that folder and ldap user also not added
please help me

you have to create that directory by yourself.
