Commonly used variable

I have a string variable foo that is used a lot on my pages and it gets passed in a query string and is then matched to database.

How is the best way to display this data.

E.g Datagrid, Datalist, Repeater

In ASP I would have Foo = rs("FooName")

and then display using <%=Foo%>.

I know this sounds a simple question but I cannot find an example of how to just return a value from database and attach to variable.
