single authentication mechanism for multiple os

Is it possible to implement a single authentication mechanism for a local network which consist of windows, mac and linux machienes.

    We have tested this using samba.
    Linux systems can join a samba domain and you can authenticate against the Active X domain. I have seen some articles on running samba on MacOS X. You need to be running Samba 3.x to used ADS
