how much can an array list hold

What is the theoretical limit of an array list?  Is it a function of system memory, or is it restricted by .NET?

In other words, when will the program crash due to memory consumption?

private void Form1_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
      bool keepGoing = true;
      string newStr = "Microsoft";
      while(keepGoing == true);

The limit would be an integer count etc as posted ... but I believe your performance would degrade to such a point that the application would either

a) run out of memory
b) degrade in performance so bad it was useless

before this ever occurred.
