User manager for domains

On Friday starting having an issue with user manager for domains.  NT domain.  The user accounts started locking out.  Reboot the PDC and BDC.  Seemed to stop.  Monday morning came in to the same issue.  Did virus on the servers found nothing.  Checked all the updates.  Unlocked the accounts and did not have a problem the rest of the day.  Tuesday morning (today)  came in to the same situation.  Discovered it started around 10pm last night.  What is happening?

Could you maybe look at the event manager and see if there are any errors or warnings?

do you have any tasks running at night?

Backup program.....etc.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

or any tasks running on the clients?

TewiaAuthor Commented:
yes, but they have always been running.  Nothing on the network has changed.

EladlaCommented:
are you sure? No software installed on the server or clients?
No configuration changes?

EladlaCommented:
And another thing....do all accounts in the domain lock out or are there ones that never do?
0

TewiaAuthor Commented:
yes, I am sure there has not been any changes.

TewiaAuthor Commented:
there are sporadically.  one will lock out this time and the next time the ones that did not lock out will lock out.

EladlaCommented:
How many users do you have in the domain?
And out of those users, how many lock out each night?

TewiaAuthor Commented:
I have about 200 users and it not only happens at night it has been happening all day.  I have tried article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/184858/EN-US/
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;191828
that explains what is happening and I am not receiving any help from Microsoft.  I have tried to load two fixes with
no luck.  Been on hold with Microsoft for 3 hours with no luck

Load a network capture app such as www.packetyzer.com on the pdc and bdc and capture the traffic to determine if your network is under attack from outside/inside or is it local to the pdc or bdc.

Although you state "nothing has changed" we still need to start isolating the problem.

Are you using SMS?

What SP are you at?

The MS articles that you referenced are for SMS.  The hotfix is included in SMS 1.2 Service Pack 4 and was fixed in SP4, not SP5.

I found a temporary solution by removing the account lockout in the policies.  This is only a temporary solution until we can move to 2003 which will be in 30 days.  I did do several scans for viruses and discovered clean and I know there are several other options to look at but it will take some time and we are upgrading.

Well disabling account lockout without knowing what is causing it could be dangerous.

I would at least capture traffic to determine it's origin.
