SBS 2003 & fax routing MSN numbers

We would like to implement personal fax numbers for 20 persons on our SBS 2003 server.

I have setup the ISDN card (AVM ISDN-controller B1 PCI) to route using individual incoming MSNs and was able to input all 20 numbers. In the SBS Fax wizard I was then able to configure routing to email for 4 of the numbers, but as soon as I tried another, an error came up saying that "the maximum number of supported fax devices for this windows version has been reached".

Is there some kind of limitation here in SBS2003 - how can be overcome (patch, upgrade, costs?).

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi omb,

Yep... there's a maximum of FOUR fax devices supported on SBS unless you add a 3rd party tool (software -- such as GFI Faxmaker or hardware -- such as a Brooktrout fax card).

Good Luck!

omb,

P. S.  if you want people to keep answering your questions you should at least go back and close out the 7 or 8 you have open from the past few months.

TechSoEasy - thanks for your feedback. Is there really no Microsoft way of doing this or upgrading the SBS 2003 functionality to accept more than 4 fax devices? I've heard of GFI Faxmaker, but € 599,- (for a 25 user license) is not cheap!

Re: my other open questions. Most of them are still awaiting feedback and I unhappy to close questions / award points for questions which have not been satisfactorily answered - I am sure you agree. If you can help on any of them, I would welcome your comments ;o)

At € 599,- that's only about € 25,- per user... I don't think that's a lot, actually.  But in the US it's available through discounters for $299. so I would think you should be able to find about the same, or if you have a US address to pay from (its a downloadable program).

Re the other questions... I didn't really peruse them... but I will just saw that there were a bunch that were MONTHS old... sometimes it's best to put a pointer question in if it hasn't been answered... many people who answer questions don't go back more than a couple weeks.

Hi TechSoEasy

Microsoft have just confirmed to me that SBS 2003 has this limitation of 4 fax devices supported, however, Windows 2003 Server (Standard) does not have this restriction. Soooo, I went along to one of my W2K3 servers, installed a card and setup routing etc. Couldn't believe it - got the same error!

I've now had to log a call with Microsoft about this issue. If I've setup this wrong, they will charge me. If not, then the call is free. Have you any further comments on this issue. If you think you can sort me out with fax routing for more than 4 MSN numbers, please let me know & I can adjust the points as necessary.

Thanks.

The "unlimited" support is only for Windows Server 2003 ENTERPRISE, not standard -- which is still limited to four.

Microsoft confirmed something different to me. How did you find this out? I couldn't find this anywhere. Have you got a URL/link confirming what you mention, so that I can re-education Microsoft reps on their products?!

many thanks
