C# under win98?

Hello,

I would be interested to learn more about C# as a possibly alternative to Java.

I read the spec on microsofts site, C# can be installed on winXP and all later versions. But the site does not mention if the language can be installed on win98 second edition.

I wondered if anyone had managed to install C#, .net under win98 SE?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, you should be able to install the framework (and possibly the SDK) on win98, but you will not be able to install Visual Studio. I remember doing it in the past with framework 1.0, and I think 1.1 probably came out when win98 was still an active OS.

Hello,

Did you mean there is a sdk for the C# language I can download?

And could I ask which .net framework we are currently at?

Yes, an SDK exists that contains all the command line compilers; however, this does not include Visual Studio.Net. I'm not sure if you can obtain the SDK for win98 (you can for 2k, xp, etc and any project developed with SDK can be ran on win98 with the framework).

The latest release of the .Net framework is version 1.1. 2.0 is currently in beta right now.

Could I ask finally, if I manage to install the sdk on my computer. This will compile the code, but will I need to install the .net framework to run the code, or is this included in the sdk?

Thanks again

to run your code in any machine, you have to install .net framework runtime, not the sdk
you could find it from microsoft site too
