msi question

I have a msi question.  Not sure if it's programming or not.  How can I modify and existing msi.  I'm very new at this.  I know that when I click on an msi file.  It loads the program to a certain directory.  What if or can I add a text file to go to a particular folder?

Note: I am not an msi expert, but I thought you might find the following of interest:

As best as I know, to modify an exisiting .msi, you have to create a patch file (.msp).
Someone else may have a better answer.
