Losing message formatting when attaching more than 1 file

I am using Outlook 2003. I have a third party application that allows calling MS Outlook. If I call MS outlook with only one attachment (from the 3rd party app) everything works fine. But if I attach more than 1 file, Outlook loses the formatting (set to Rich text) and always comes up with "Plain Text". Is this a MAPI problem? is there a patch?

Does Outlook exhibit the same behavior if you create a message and attach multiple items in Outlook itself (i.e. not using the third party application)?  I suspect not, which would imply that the problem is with the third party application.  I've written applications that use Outlook to send items and have never encountered this behavior myself.
