concatentate two strings when one of them is null

Last Modified: 2008-02-01
I have a query:
select (provider_lastname + ';' + provider_firstname) as name,provider_tax_id from pri_provider

how ever if one of the names is null, then the whole result comes back as null. I would rather the null be treated as an empty string and added on to the non-null value.

so that 'Jones' + <null> = 'Jones', (instead of <null>)
