Outlook and Internet don't work under VPN

When I VPN into our network (Windows 2000 Servers) from home, I can't access the internet, and I get the following message in outlook: Task 'mail.{domainname}.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted.  If this problem continues,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
I can send mail fine, but not receive.
If I disconnect VPN, email and internet work fine
Do I need to configure something differently on the VPN? My home firewall? Outlook?

Thanks

I am confused..I thought the problem was not with VPN but with surfing the Internet while using VPN.....correct?

I have seen this multiple times wiht our vpn client (Cisco) - user can connect with the client, but once the connection is active, they lose connection to the web - in the cases I have seen, it has almost always been a port blockage issue - I'm not saying your solution is incorrect, just providing another point of view:)

It's correct that the user cannot access internet or receive email in Outlook when connected to VPN.  If they disconnect VPN, both internet and email work fine.  I suspect it's nytekgirl said, that it's in the VPN configuration on the router.
What kind of router/vpn appliance are you using?  I describe to you where to look for this feature....
