PHP Website search - any recommendations?

Hi all!

I want to add a PHP-powered search option to a website. At the moment it's not really content managed and it may well not be full stop, so I need the search to work independantly of any CMS that might be added later. There will also be a link from the live site to the old site such that news and content found on that site from the previous X years that it has been in operation will also be available via the search.

I did plan to use this: http://www.isearchthenet.com/pro/requirements.php

The ISP with which the site is currently hosted does not support PHP sockets and, thus, this isearch will apparently not work.

Can anyone please suggest an alternative that is cost effective?

Many thanks in anticipation.
