Download music/video files using wireless connection

I use Cox Cable as my ISP. The connection is downstairs so I use a wireless router to connect my computer to the Internet. But I can't access video and music files. I can surf the web and even view PDF files, but I get an error message every time I try to listen to online music with Real Player or Windows Media Player. The error message says something like "Can't find server" or something like that. I tried in Amazon.com and other sites and I get the same error message. When I tried listening to the samples in Amazon.com, I was able to listen to them using their built-in player, but I got the error message when I tried listening to the Real Player or Windows Media Player versions. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
