Problem configuring a Cisco 3550 switch using hyperterminal

I have set the switch back to factory default config. When using hyperterminal to send a text config. file, it does not complete correctly, and I get error messages from the switch:

*Mar  1 00:36:59: %IP_SNMP-3-SOCKET: can't open UDP socket;
Unable to open socket on port 161

This switch is not hooked up to anything except the console port. I have performed this procedure many times in the past. This is the first time I have seen this. I have also tried it with another, identical switch and another text file. Same result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I found this also for the 6400:

    * CSCdk66361

      The error message "IP_SNMP-3-SOCKET: can't open UDP socket" is generated whenever a Cisco 6400 NSP is booted with SNMP enabled in the system configuration. This message can be ignored.

This reference indicates a bug, what IOS are you using? it could be the same bug.
