Shell Scripting

I want to make a Shell script that will copy
all files from the directory  /usr/dir1 to the directory /usr/backup
thats something i know how to do.

The dificult part is how to make it create 1 folder for each day of the week.

For eg /usr/backup/monday
          /usr/backup/tues... etc etc

so I will have 7 different backups.

and each end of the week it will overwrite the same directories with new ones...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

#!/bin/sh
sourcedir=/usr/dir1
backupdir=/usr/backup

# set day = Mon..Fri
day=`date | cut -d' ' -f1`

# remove the old version of the backup
rm -rf $backupdir/$day

# create the backupdir
mkdir -p $backupdir/$day

# archive the source files to the backupdir
(cd $sourcedir; tar -cpsf - *) | (cd $backupdir/$day; tar -xpsf -)
