Trouble with password encryption method

Please can anyone help me?

In a .htaccess file, I coded the following:

ErrorDocument 401 /forbidden.html
AuthName "som text"
AuthType Basic
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthMySQLhost localhost
AuthMySQLDB gerard
AuthMySQLUserTable user_info
AuthMySQLNameField user_name
AuthMySQLPasswordField user_passwd
AuthMySQLPwEncryption scrambled
AuthMySQLEnable on
require valid-user

As indicated by the documentation for apache2-mod_auth_mysql-2.8.1-4.
I am running apache2-2.0.53-9 on a Suse 9.3 Professional server with mysql-4.1.10a-3.2.
In the database 'gerard', the table 'user_info' exists.
I filled the password field using the MySQL 'PASSWORD()' funtion, and I also tried the 'OLD_PASSWORD()' function. Neither works with the value 'scrambled' for the AuthMySQLPwEncryption field.

When I change the AuthMySQLPwEncryption value to 'none' and I fill the password field with plain text, the system works as expected.

What am I missing here?

Sincerely,

Gerard

mod_auth_mysql-2.8.1 has a bug which is not compatible any more with the mysql pw-generation. See http://modauthmysql.sourceforge.net/CHANGES with version 2.9 the error should be fixed.
