how to fire SelectedIndexChanged event in code?

I have a drop downlist that I set the default selection using:

In my Page_Load I have

   MyDropDownList.SelectedIndex = 0

this code is not triggered, it appears that ONLY the User selection will trigger the SelectedIndexChanged event?  Is this how ASP.NET is supposed to work?  If so, how can I trigger the "SelectedIndexChanged" event via code?

thanks, Rob.

so you're saying that the event can't truely be triggered, just called directly?
Jeff CertainCommented:
Well... it's triggered by client-side events. Since your code to set the value runs on the server, there are no client-side events being triggered...
