Backup Server 2003 Data to another Server

Hi,

I tried to backup users database to another server hard disk, I have received this error message "Cannot copy Advance Payment Form: There has been a sharing violation. The Souce or destination file may be in use"

All the PCs here OFF, why I can't copy over the file to another server hard disk? Why the file may be in use even no body to open it.

Something is clearly using it. Server2003 can be a tad annoying at times. I have a file on my server I couldn't delete for nearly a week.

TO find out what files are in use by a process, get Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com

To find out what processes are accessing a file, get File Monitor from www.sysinternals.com

These are Very Useful applets to have available anyway. They don't even need "installing", just a single EXE in each case so easy to carry aroundon a ramstick or similar.

My bet - it's the index-your-files-to-make-searching-easier wiget trying to index the database. Daft...

What type of database is it? If SQL server, then it is open and you can't just copy it like that.

Try using robocopy, a free command line copy tool, which has many options and is very good in copying difficult copy files. it is part of the M$ resource kit tools.
