veritas backup 10 exceptions backing up
I keep getting this exceptin. what does it mean and is it bad?
Backup- C: SystemUnable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistrib ution\Even tCache\{A4 7988E8-829 7-453B-A95 A-A8A2195E 472F}.bin - skipped
Backup- C: SystemUnable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistrib
It means the file was in use at the time of the backup. BE has skipped over the file as it was unable to lock it long enough to back it up.
The folder in question, I believe is related to SUS/WUS. Since BE couldn't gain exclusive access to the folder, it doesn't back it up.
Do you have the Open File Option in BE?

Hmm - so the first comment from Dabas didn't assist at all?
It means that a process is using this file, and the backup program is blocked from reading it.
I would not worry much about it.
