"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi FalconTwo,

With Outlook open, go to Tools > Options > Receipts.  Check "Notify me of each read receipt request". Click OK.

Cheers!

jjmck's accepted reply to this similar problem:

is probably going to answer your question.

In essence, if you have an Exchange Server you can prevent requests from receipts going outside your domain.  If you haven't got Exchange then there is no way to prevent Outlook issuing receipts - you'll need to upgrade to OL2002 for this.

FalconTwo,

The instructions I gave you was for Outlook Express.  Here it is for Outlook 2000

1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click E-mail Options.

2. Click Tracking Options.

3. Do one of the following:
To send a read receipt whenever one is requested, click Always send a response.

To not allow a read receipt whenever one is requested, click Never send a response.

To be notified when a read receipt is requested, click Ask me before sending a response.

4. Click OK.
