allow users to install sw

Hi,
I am upgrading from a workgroup to a domain. I want to allow users to be able to install software. What are the possible methods?

Thanx

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This is NOT recommended in general.  Allowing users access to systems to install software is a security risk.  And not because the users do something intentionally bad.  But spyware, adware, viruses could all infect a system if/when a user attempts to install unapproved software.

If you insist on giving users the ability to install software, I recommend you create a local computer account for the user to log in to and install software.  Then make the user logon to the domain for network resources, such as printing and files.

the default group profile "power user" will allow them to install most software.

Cheers.

I find this solution difficult to implement, especially if there are many users.

I know that they are able to install sw, but this is again a local group.

What I want, is doing it either through GPO or by using a group that has some additional rights.
