access to server

Hello there,

I would appreciate some guidances to ensure i don't go completely wrong.

I have installed windows small business server 2000. i have a fixed ip address, lets say is

http://XX.XX.XXX.XX1, i went to to confirm this.

The server has a ip address which is 192.168.X.XX

I want to simple test the servers ability to serve up pages.

i have a firewall and have configured port to 80.

Please tell me the steps required so i do not inadvertently provide a hole in security to the server.

Who is Participating?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The proper procedure is to forward incoming http traffic (port 80) on your public IP to the LAN IP of the server (192.168.x.xx).

However, you can test your server from the LAN before configuring the port forwarding (or NAT) as above.  There is no need to modify your firewall until you are ready to serve pages to internet users.

Since you are security conscious (always a good idea), you may want to take a look at the MS IIS 6.0 security info/overview:
