Acrobat PDF file format is having difficulties (Illustrator)

Does anyone have access to both Adobe Photoshop CS, and Illustrator CS. If so please create an image in Photoshop. Flatten layers, save it as a PDF, and then open it in illustrator. Then  ... tell me how you did it !!!

I'm getting the message - Acrobat PDF file format is having difficulties Bad Error Code and I cant understand why ...

Thanx.

Hi,

Do you absolutely need to save the image to PDF? Try exporting a flattened TIFF from Photoshop file instead and then simply File > Place it in Illustrator...

cheers
You can place layered psd's as well. I agree with acseven that saving the pdf shouldn't be necessary.

Thanks acseven ...
How do I export a tiff in PS? If I go to file/export I get paths to illustrator, and Zoom view.
Tried simply file save as Tiff, and illustrator could not see the file to import it?

I have managed to save the file as a PDF, and then in illustrator used File/Place. I get a small window with my image visible within it, with five options. Whichever I opt for I get the message "An unexpected error has occured" and file fails to appear.

Thanx ...and Regards.

Looks like some srious problem then ... I saved my file as yellow.tiff (a simple elipse filled in yelllow) from photoshop.
Now I go to illustrator. I opened a document (one of the samples), and clicked on file/place.
The file options allow 1)All formats  2)Adobe PDF.
There are nine different files in my folder including tif, ai, psd, eps
1) allows me to select only 3 files (2 x ai and a pdf)
2) allows me to select  the same 3 files.
cheers acseven. will check post tomorrow.
Hmm... Very strange .. I think the best way to start would be to reinstall Adobe Illustrator. Uninstall first.

I'll see if I can find anything else, but in the meantime, please try that.

good luck
I'm in the process of re-installing, but Illustrator crashes immediately on opening. Will report back when Its functional again ... Thanx
Hi people. Yes I installed Illustartor CS on my laptop, and everything works fine! On my other PC I cant even get it to reinstall correctly. It seems to install alright, but on startup I get ---updating font menu --- initialising --- and I see the work area for a fraction of a second and then its gone.. anyway thanks very much for your help.....
Hi,

Glad you got it working, and thanks for the points. Sorry for the delay on my reply though.

I searched on that issue, and found this discussion: http://www.forum4designers.com/archive42-2004-9-123076.html, maybe it would help somehow. :S

Good luck

I found another thread, in french... So, by my not-so-good french, I think that the suggestion in the last post of the link I posted above solves it:

Just delete the file AdobeFnt05.lst (or maybe *.lst) at the fonts folder (this is for a mac, so something like "home"/Bibliothèque/Application Support/Adobe/fonts).

Good luck
Thanks for your suggestion acsven. I did a search and removed six of these files to the recycle bin, but when you start illustrator they are replaced, and it still crashes. Wonder if a faulty plug-in is responsible, but it happens as the fonts are loading. However, I do see the desktop for just a brief time.
Thanks all the same ...
I'm really out of ideas here. You could try asking this at the Adobe Forums for help...

Anyway, maybe this will help, cheers
