How to connect to netgear on the road

I have a PDA with wifi. As I drive along the highway, I pick up many "netgear"  802.1 signals, yet cannot connect. Are these all private sites? If not, how can I access?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Should just pick it up on its on. That is if you have your PDA set to connect to any available network. More than likely, those networks you are picking up are either encrypted or use MAC filtering. You will be able to recieve a beacon from the network, but can't connect because you are not allowed on the network. Good for them, bad for you. Not many people of open access wireless networks. If they do, its because they don't know how to lock them down. Hope this helps.
