TextArea Applet, Interaction with Browser Tab Key, Focus Traversal

I'm developing a simple applet (jdk 1.4.2_07) which wraps up a JTextArea. The reason I'm doing this is to provide a textarea in which I can control the word wrap and managed structured content in a better way than that provided by the standard <textarea>. The browser I'm using is Internet Explorer 6.0.

The main problem I've got at the moment is how to get this applet to correctly interact with the browser as the user tabs from control to control. The web page will contain a number of standard ie <input> and other <textarea> fields.

At present when the user tabs onto the applet, the textarea correctly gets focus but I'm unable to use the tab key (or ctrl tab) to move from the text area to the next component.
Originally the tab was being displayed in the text area, I customised the focus traversal keys for the JTextArea component, now the tabs area being handled by the default focus manager correctly (tab key is no longer generating a KeyEvent).

The question is how do I pass the tab key back to IE and let it determine the next component to get focus.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You might be able to call JavaScript focus() from the applet on the next form component
