I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

In the DrawItem event look at the value of DrawitemState to see if the background should be painted the normal color or the highlighted color.

        Dim brush As Brush
        If (e.State And DrawItemState.Selected) = DrawItemState.Selected Then
            'focus color
            brush = New SolidBrush(Color.LightSeaGreen)
        Else
            'no focus color
            brush = New SolidBrush(Color.White)
        End If
        e.Graphics.FillRectangle(brush, e.Bounds)
