Change Notes to use Application dir instead of local settings

I have a question about notes 6.5, we want to use windows roaming profiles but for some reason notes wants to put its data dir into

C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application Data\lotus\notes\data

When in fact we need it to sit in

C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\lotus\notes\data

I have tried changing the settings in preferences but it seems to make not difference. In fact if I change it to use the application data dir, it tries to configure notes once more. So I need to know where else I need to change the settings.

You need to locate your notes.ini file and adjust the Directory= line to reflect what you want. I would also scan through the rest of the notes.ini since there could be other references to specific directories based on your installation. One example could be FileDlgDirectory=.

I HIGHLY recommend making a backup copy of your notes.ini BEFORE you start tinkering, you can effectively disable your notes client if you are not seasoned at playing with the notes.ini settings. Also, save yourself some time and make sure you do not have more than one copy of notes.ini on your hard drive. If you do, I recommend removing them all (after making copies off on a lan drive, disk, etc) except the copy in your notes executable directory. The notes executable directory is the directory in which the notes.exe file sits.

Dear dwelldon,
I have done a similar setup... What I did was to recreate the Notes client Icons used by users to reflect the following:
  Shortcut Target: "C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\notes.exe" =C:\Docume~1\%username%\notes\data\notes.ini
  Start In: "C:\Docume~1\%username%\notes\data\"

Then, I made a template notes.ini file with the following line changed and distributed it to all my client machines.

What this does is that Notes is started in the C:\Docume~1\%username%\notes\data\ directory (forced as such by the shortcut) and the notes.ini file (which can not accept the %username% variable) references the .\ (current directory) and that solved my problems.  Dunno if that is helpful to you or not.  ;-)

Cheers, Peter.
