Mapping a Drive at Boot-- Before Login

I am looking for a way to mount/map a drive (specifically a NFS mount using Microsoft NFS client) when the machine is booted.  This would be similar to starting an application server like Weblogic automatically (Windows service) when a machine is booted.

The Microsoft NFS client should have nothing to do with this since once installed you map NFS drives just like you would other Window shares.  This mapping is required due to an application hosted on these servers that requires data on the network share.  Currently I must login and map the drive manually every time the server is booted to get it to function properly.  This session must remain open for the application to function properly.

Try using either a startup policy (Start->Run->gpedit.msc and then under Computer Config\Windows Settings\Scripts\Startup)
or use SCHTasks...
From a command prompt:
Schtasks /Create /SC OnStart....(provide the details and I can assist with setting this up... You would need to use valid credentials as the system account would not be able to map to a remote resource).

(actually, you can give the computer account rights to the NTFS and share in Windows 2003 native mode)

OK, I see where to do this but am unsure how to write the script to perform the map.  Do you have a sample script that will map a remote drive?

The NFS mount using the Microsoft NFS client is no different then a NTFS mount (except a popup dialog box confirming the mount was successful).

I have another 500 point question from 2 weeks ago concerning this same issue so the expert with the best solution will get 1000 points.

Personally, I'd use SCHTasks - as you can supply the credentials...

SCHTasks /Create /SC OnStart /TN MyMapTask /TR "Net use R: \\RemotePC\Share" /RU Domain\Username /RP MyPassword

Where /TN is the task name
RemotePC is the system you want to map to
Share is the remote share
Domain is the authenticating domain
Username and MyPassword are the domain credentials...

You can use a startup script, but you'd have to supply domain credentials there and it'd be wide open for anyone with access to gain the password...

NET USE R: \\RemotePC\Share /User:Domain\USername MyPassword

I disagree with this statement.  If you give the COMPUTER ACCOUNT access to the SHARE and NTFS permission of the folder, you will actually achieve a much higher level of security.  Using Computer Account for security was not possible in NT 4.0..but it is now possible.  When your right click the folder and configure the NTFS security, you can change the OBJECT TYPE to COMPUTERS.  Then search for the computer that you want to give access to.  Once you find the computer, you would apply the security just like a user account.

Then, in your startup script, use this command:

NET USE R: \\RemotePC\Share
