Page.DataBind()

I have some code like this

aspx page
...
<asp:Panel id=page1>
<input type=submit value="<%# getSubmitButtonText() %>"
</asp:Panel>
<asp:Panel id=page2>
<input type=submit value="<%# getSubmitButtonText() %>"
</asp:Panel>
...

aspx.vb
...
Page_Load()...
 ...
 Select Case Session("page")
 Case ""
   page1.visible = true
   page2.visible = false
 Case "2"
   page1.visible = false
   page2.visible = true
 End Select
 ...
End Sub

Function getSubmitButtonText()
  Select Case Session("page")
    Case ""
      return "Find"
    Case "2"
     return "Update"
  End Select
End Function
...

My problem is that both buttons (you only see the second button after submitting the first page) have the same text of "Find". Although page.DataBind() is getting called on every page load. Once the data is bound it is bound and never rebound. I'm starting to dislike asp.net. Can any one help me with this (and possibly change my opinion of asp.net)?
thanks

Is there a reason that you can't just set the text at design time and then show.hide the button?

Other than that... I don't see anywhere where you're setting the Session("page") variable...
