I/O Device Error while performing scheduled back up (Veritas 9.1 build 4691) on a Dell PowerEdge 2600
Have a client with a Dell Poweredge 2600 running SBS2003 with Internal Benchmark DLTape DLT1/VS80 and Veritas 9.1 build 4691
Back ups are successful in only about 1 in 10 attempts. Error Message is "The Request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" The following things have been done to address this issue:
1. Replaced Tape Drive
2. Replaced Tapes
3. Updated drivers from Veritas.
My company is about to suggest the purchase of a Host Adapter and put the dirve on it (Currently connected to MOBO SCSI) AND/OR upgrading to Veritas 10.1. Thoughts?

what controller are you running your tape drive off of?
oh, nevermind, I'm an idiot....
so it is connected to the 2nd channel of the perc 4/di?
go to bios and go to integrated devices, make sure that the 2nd channel is in scsi mode and not raid mode.
It is generally recommended that you run a tape drive off of a separate controller though.

Thank you, I thought I read somewhere that it should generally be on a separate controller. If I can get the down time on the server I'll check out the bios.
Thanks again
Thanks again
