will Veritas 8.6 backup a Windwos 2000 server after 2003 adprep

We recently purchased Veritas 10 for our new Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003 (Not in place yet) We currently have another server running Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000. We need to update the active directory on the 2000 server to 2003, so that we can add the new 2003 server to the Domain, move all the mailboxes, and then decommission the old server. Our server to be decommissioned is running Veritas BE 8.6. This  server does backups of several other systems remotely. Will the 8.6 BE work after running adprep/forestprep and adprep/domainprep, from the Windows 2003 CD, on the Windows 2000 server.  We need this server to continue to do backups until the other server is in place, which will probably take about 2 weeks to test comfortably.

Thank You,
Wendell

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Knowing Veritas ... it probably will work flawlessly. HOWEVER I do not have specific experience with your specific situation. I would recommend contacting Veritas and asking them personally. I know this sounds like a I don't  know ask them, but I would honestly ask Veritas just in case they have a little detail we might miss.

Cheers!

I had done some direct-access chats with Veritas before I posted. They no longer support 8.6, but since I had already purchased 10.0 for the new server I had to ask questions in a round about way. In the end the tech wrote that if the OS did not change they think the 8.6 will continue to work with the updated AD. The next suggestion was that we install 10.0 in eval mode until we decommission the server. We are running the open file option, remote server option and exchange option on the 8.6, and I do not wish to upgrade these modules on the old server at this time. (All is running flawlessly.) I am going to give it a whirl this weekend and I will post my results.

Wendell

Went ahead with the updates last night. Added two Windows 2003 servers to the Domain after the schema updates. Veritas 8.6 still works, YEAH!!  Backed up Exchange and two remote servers with no errors. Thank You UICE for your comments.

Thank You Wendell
