weird preformance issues on windows 2000 server DNC

Hi all,
I'm running a DNC with around 12 users connected to it. The machine itself is fairly slow. However, the issues end users are experiening are very strange. Examples include:
1. Opening up an Excel document, adding data, saving it. Then reopening the file and having the changes not be saved.
2. Running Microsoft Access on a client machine with the data being housed on a SQL Server 2000 database. For some reason it's taking up to 20 minutes to run some remote queries.

Could a DNC result in these sorts of strange errors occurring? If so, what are the solutions to fixing the DNC? Any help would be appreciated.
