Connection error using Remote Desktop: The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol.

i'm trying to connect to a client's server over the Internet from my office using Remote Desktop and this is the error I'm getting:

The remote computer disconnected the session because of an error in the licensing protocol. Please try connecting to the remote computer again or contact your server administrator.

Anyone know the solution? Thanks.

This most likely becauase the server you are connecting to is a full terminal server and the licenses are invalid or missing.

Some admins mistakenly install Terminal Services on the server...thinking that they are putting the server in Administrative mode (allowing 2 free connections) This was true in Windows 2000 but in Windows 2003, TS admin is built in.  If you are just looking to administer the server (and not have full terminal services), I would remove Terminal Services using ADD/REMOVE programs in the control panel (windows components).

You will be able to establish you connection by bypassing the licensing using this command:
MSTCS /v:servername /console  (however only one person can connect)

Otherwise, you will have to troubleshoot your TS licensing using this article:

Thanks, sounds good. How, exactly, do I use your suggestion to connect:

MSTCS /v:servername /console  (however only one person can connect)
