Using migration toolkit with MSDE

I have been trying to use the mysql migration toolkit to migrate a database I have in MSDE.  I have been unable to connect to the database with the wizard.  I can connect to an Access database ok.

When I use MSDE in other applications I have been loggin in using the sql login (servername of (local), username of sa, and password blank).  This works just fine.

I get the impression that the mysql migration toolkit uses windows integrated security to login to the source sql server, because using the above login details does not work.

To manage my msde, I have been using a trial version of something called 'MDSE Manager' which seems to do the trick.  In this I set up two servers, one called (local) with a sql login, and another I named after my computer name FISHPIG-T3OCVT4 with Windows NT login.  When I double click on this FISHPIG-T3OCVT4 server from within my MSDE Manager I seem to be able to login without any entry of username or password - I think that my current login username and password for my laptop is used.

So I think I can login into my sql server using windows integrated security, yet if I try the username and password that I use to logon onto my laptop (on which MSDE is installed) I cannot connect to the source database during the migration toolkit wizard.

Any ideas?

Actually the opposite is true, the Migration Toolkit cannot use integrated security and instead requires a SQL account. The problem more likely has to do with the fact that the toolkit was developed against SQL server and something unexpected happens when connecting to MSDE.

I would strongly recommend you try connecting with a SQL login account and if that fails that you report this at with as much detail as possible and it should be taken care of.
