Dreamweaver right click and extension problem
Hi
I am using an inherited installation of Dreamweaver MX and recently have some problems when right clicking files in the file list, or using the menus. I get javascript errors
I think this installation used to have extensions installed but it got corrupted a while ago and I had to reconfigure it . Now no extensions show in the extension manager but I have not disabled or uninstalled any.
The problems with the right clicking started when I downloaded and installed Dreamweaver MX 2004 Updater
I have read somewhere that to resolve this issue I need to disable the extensions, but cannot locate them, even though I am pretty sure that the previous user had them installed
Thanks

HI Esopo
If I reinstall will it find the existing extensions automatically?
I would like to use them
Many thanks

I don't know about that, but I would advise you reinstall them as well.

Hi
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Dreamweaver. However the problem with right clicking in the site window remains. I have accessed the extension manager from outside the program but still the extensions do not show. I am looking for a way to uninstall the updater.
I cannot reach the extensions to uninstall

Thanks Esopo, much appreciated
The downloaded extensions folder is empty, even though yesterday I downloaded a flyout menu extension, which now shows in the extension manager but not in that folder
The errors are:
on right clicking the files in site window
While executing DWContext_LocalSite_Revert File enabled in menus, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred: TypeError: site.canDoRevertFileDlg is not a function
Also when trying to use the file menu in the site window I get a similar error
While executing DWSieFileMenuPopup_RevertF ile enabled in menus, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred: TypeError: site.canDoRevertFileDlg is not a function
This was all after downloading the 6.1 updater but I cannot find a way to uninstall this.
I have restored XP to an earlier time but not luck

I'm guessing here, but it sounds like the updater killed your extensions and the menu engine is trying to connect to one of those extensions, hence giving you the error.
DW uses Javascript to deal with extensions (extensions are actually coded in Javascript), so that error that you are getting is a perfectly standard DW functionality error.
Do you know what extensions you had? Try downloading them again.
There is also another extensions folder I found while snooping around:
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Extension Manager\Downloaded Extensions
Maybe you can find your extensions there. If not, try downloading a random extension (and remember the exact file name) so that you can do a file search to spot the folder that DW is using to store the extensions.
I have a hunch that once you reinstall the missing extensions, you'll be ok.
I'm also thinking about resetting the menu configuration file, but I suggest you give the extensions deal a try first.
Good luck!

Hi Esopo
Well I searched on .mxp files and found and reinstalled the extensions (PHAkt)
This had no effect on the problem, so I disabled them, still no luck and the problem still occurs
I agree, it seems to be definitely something to do with the updater. I am not sure if there is a way to disable it, I have searched but cannot find anything.
I was wondering about your second solution. I can live with the problem if necessary but would prefer to have the right click functionality if possible (mind you now am used to uploading using ctl-shift-u. Nothing like a nice keyboard shortcut I always think!
Thanks again for all your help

Hi Esopo
Still haven't resolved it but thanks for all your help. I have given the points, but if you do know how I might progress from here, please let me know

beechfielder,
Thanks for the points! Now I feel even more tied to finding you a solution ;)
When DW doesn't find the config files, it just recreates them. I would suggest that you try renaming the DW config folder and let DW create a new one, probably disregarding the extensions. Here is how to go about it:
(From the Macromedia site):
Try recreating the Dreamweaver user configuration folder.
Windows:
1. Close Dreamweaver
2. Browse to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Applicatio n Data\Macromedia\Dreamweave r MX 2004
3. Rename the folder "Dreamweaver MX 2004 OLD"
4. Restart Dreamweaver and see if the problem persists.

You could try reinstalling DW (it usually clears all these little problems).
Before you do that, you may want to back-up your site definitions. Here is how:

Also, you can reach the extension manager from outside DW (through te start menu). For some crazy reason, sometimes it helps:
Start > Program Files > Macromedia > Extension Manager
Best regards,
Esopo.
