Linux Updates. Should I?

I am just downloading and installing Secuirty Patches or RPMs. But after installing these security patches or updates, it says: "Parsing Complete"Does this mean that there installed without any errors? How can I know if these security patches are installed or not?
Also, I have VERY VERY long list on SUSE's website for there security updates. Should I install the ones that I need? Or for example, if I do not use SQL or Prostege, I am not going to download the patches for them... Please help. I am confused on what to download and what not to. Should I download the ones that say Kernel (something) or I dont know...

But I keep my system pretty secure so theres no need for any security updates at all. I have a router firewall, and plus, I dont logon as ROOT. ALL my ports are stealthed. This will keep my system very secure even without patches. So maybe I will not install them.

So...maybe I dont need to install those patches because I am already secure and my services are disabled...

Word of advice, no system is truly safe. There's a reason for those patches and i would recommend checking them out to see which one you need to install. Normally the kernel patches are what you need, especially if they're security related. If the patch is for a program that youre not using, then don't bother with it. If you want to know what if the patches took effect, then read what the patch is for, that way you'll know what it fixed.

So, if the patch is "Kernel" BLAH BLAH BLAH.... then I should install it?

Also, after installing, what does "Parsing Complete" mean? Does that mean its installed? Im lost...how can I tell if these patches are installed or not?
