sonicwall pro 4060 vpn client questions

Ok guys and gals, I currently have a sonicwall pro 4060 with VPN configured. Clients currently connect to the sonicwall using the sonicwall global vpn client. I would like to go a different route with the client portion. I am not really satisfied with the sonicwall global vpn client which gives me headaches. I was wondering if I could use the VPN connectivity tool that comes with Windows 2000, XP, but at the same time have a secure connection. All feedback is appreciated.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you're using the built-in VPN support in 2000/XP, you'll want to use L2TP instead of PPTP (which is vulnerable to "man-in-the-middle" attacks).  I checked Sonicwall's website, & the 4060 supports L2TP.

Good luck.

Can I secure the L2TP with digital certificates? Calvin, is it possible for me to use the domain logon credentials? I want to make this L2TP vpn connection secure as possible.
Yes, you can secure L2TP with certificates, or with domain logon credentials, but apparently they're mutually exclusive.

for Certificates:
VPN connection properties -> Security tab -> select Advanced radio button -> click Settings button ->
select "Use Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) -> in drop-down box, select "Smart Card or other Certificate..."
