outlook 2003 error adding exchange server to profile will not check name or open up outlook

I just got a new computer, Outlook 2003 worked great like it did with old computer,  Operationing XP Pro SP2.  I added Franklin Covey Planner Software to Outlook just like I had it on my old computer with basicly the exact same conf. Win XP Pro SP2, Outlook 2003 software.

Around the same time I loaded the  software I would get a hungapp error when trying to open up outlook.  I'm connecting to an exchange server that I had working at one time on my computer.  The exchange server is working because I can remote access web outlook on my computer.

I email microsoft they had me create a new profile and see if the profile was bad.  I did what they say trying to add a new profile.  That created an error when trying to connect to server and check name.  I get error:

The program ["C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe  C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL  C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\System\MSMAPI\1033\MLCFG32.CPL ,@0] caused a problem and is going to close.
Would you like to save a dump file?

Then it closes and does not open up.

I decided to uninstall franklin covey software, it did the same thing, I then Uninstalled Outlook 2003 and then restarted it and reinstalled Outlook 2003.

After installing new software I tried to setup exchange server and it got the same error.  I then updated software with microsoft and it has the same error.

Any idea on how to fix the error.

Thanks!

Hi.
You were very close to fixing it.
Rename C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\System\MSMAPI\1033\MLCFG32.CPL
the MLCFG32.CPL file.

Afterward, do the Microsoft Office Repair in Add/Remove, and you should be okay.

I did what you said and the change allowed me to check name on adding exchange server and I got the error message for can't find server which is right because I didn't have my VPN connected.  when I connected my vpn I got the error message:

The program ["C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE ] caused a problem and is going to close. Would you like to save a dump file?

then I get the error

AppName: outlook.exe      AppVer: 11.0.5510.0     AppStamp:3f1380f0
ModName: unknown      ModVer: 0.0.0.0      ModStamp:00000000
fDebug: 0       Offset: 00000000

Then wants to open in safe mode, do that same error then try to repair but doesn't work
Hi.
I would uninstall Outlook (Office is you have it) and then do the following BEFORE rebooting:
1.  Delete the following directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
2.  Start --> Run --> Regedit
3.  Click on My Computer
4.  File --> Export.... (Export the registry to the root of your C drive)
5.  Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft
6.  Scroll down and find the Office Key:
7.  Right-click Office --> Delete
8.  Close Regedit
9.  Reboot
10. Install Office
11. Connect the VPN
12. Setup the Exchange account in Outlook

Followed all your steps,

then load outlook 2003 and clicked add new profile, selected exchange server, added ip address and name then clicked check name and error

The program ["C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE ] caused a problem and is going to close. Would you like to save a dump file?

Then error

AppName: outlook.exe      AppVer: 11.0.5510.0     AppStamp:3f1380f0
ModName: unknown      ModVer: 0.0.0.0      ModStamp:00000000
fDebug: 0       Offset: 00000000

I did the first step again remaning the file and then repair outlook,

i'm now getting error message can't find exchange server.  I have the vpn on and not sure why there is a problem, I might have to wait to do it at work tomorrow and see what happens to understand why it's not connecting.  I know the server is on because I can remote access into my outlook on my computer right now.

Thanks
Hi.
Instead of using the server name in Outlook, try using the ip address; it will automatically change the address to the name afterward.
The other thing I can think of is to go back in the machine and the try the connection and fix if needed:
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System restore
Choose a date or time prior to the Franklin Covey installation.

I decided to do a full reformat and reinstall everything.

After I installed Outlook 2003 I was able to open it up add exchange server account.  It would lookup and find name on server and validate it.   But there is a problem when I go to open outlook.

It asks for profile, i set it to ask because I made a new one in mail to see if that would correct my problem. I select the new profile it asks me for password to login into account and then it freezes with the configuring outlook box opened up never fininshing the setup of a new account.

It then does not open so I end task and get this error.

szAppName : OUTLOOK.EXE     szAppVer : 11.0.6353.0     szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0     offset : 00000000

Any ideas??
