Need Linux Printer and Scanner Drivers for Lexmark X6170

Having installed Novell SuSE 9.3 (their latest before the version 10 beta) I need Linux Printer and Scanner Drivers for my Lexmark X6170.
Problem is Lexmark make drivers for this printer for Windows only, and frankly it's a great printer/scanner for the money, partly because it includes a sheet feeder for the scanner (MOST "so-called" all-in-ones DO NOT) and partly because it's quite a fast printer AND scanner.
I'm hoping someone has written or is writing drivers because I don't think that I can.
Although the Novell SuSE installation disk includes many Lexmark printers, it is a fact that NONE of them are similar to this printer/scanner.
There are also one or two very similar Lexmark models WITHOUT the scanner feeder that your drivers will probably work for.  Having said that, I am sure that the choice of the scan going either to the flat bed(?) or the scanner sheet feeder is made BY THE SCANNER ITSELF, not the software driver.
Finally I do believe the same problem might exist with the later model, the Lexmark X7170 (also with scanner sheet feeder), and indeed similar drivers might be effective: It is certainly worth looking at these models simultaneously.

I think your out of luck for the moment. Lexmark has pretty bad non-m$ support and only a few of their consumer products have linux drivers. I also don't think there is much development in that way going on.

Not sure about the scanner. The printer will probably work if you select the HP laserjet 4 driver.

You can check the following website

http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Lexmark

If you can not find any driver, you can build a driver by yourself for linux from the information that is provided by Lexmark company
http://www.lexmark.com/US/products/info/linux/

I hope this could help you.

thanks
