Installing Windows on Laptop with SATA Hard drive

Hi

I'm trying to install Windows on a fujitsu siemens Amilo M7440 laptop.
It has a SATA drive and I'm getting the message of "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"
It has a Recovery CD with windows xp home that came with it that works fine and can see the drive. I would like to install Windows in a different language and the CD I have does not detect the SATA drive.
When I press F6 to load the drivers, it says that windows setup did not detect any floppy disk drive to load the OEM drivers from.
Thew laptop can boot from a USB drive wich should be the replacement for the floppy but windows setup does not detect that when it looks for the SATA drivers.

Any help will be appreciated

I think what you need to do is burn the sata drivers on a CD and when it ask for the sata drivers, pop out the Windows install CD and pop in the driver CD.

rindi:
"slipstream the CD with SP2 and the SATA drivers"

Do you mean creating a new cd with SP2 and the SATA drivers included on it?

That was what I was thinking of doing, the question is how. I went to your link and could not find anything there.
How can I creat a cd using the two that I have so that it will work?? Remember that the two CD's is in two different languages.

Thank You

Yes, that was what I meant. Sorry, I pasted the wrong link, I wanted to post this one:

Here's another great site of stlipstreaming... you can choose your level... beginner, intermediate or advanced.

http://unattended.msfn.org/index.htm
Just a short note on slipstreaming.  We do this at work and I have a directory on my hard drive for this where I add the Windows' updates and drives to it before we do a new clone.  My comment is that slipstreaming is not a 5 minute process.  It is a little complicated and if you are looking to do this for one system, I don't think it's worth the time.  I would go to a PC with a diskette drive and CD burner and burn the sata drivers to a CD.
Right

I've done everything and burned the CD.
Now if I understand you correctly rindi, I need to put the SATA drivers in this directory: \i386\$oem$\$1$\sata\
Do I need to do anything else or do I just simply create this directory and put the drivers in there?
On the CD that does work there is a folder $OEM\ with a bunch of things in including extra software like acrobat reader, WMP 10 and some updates. I copied this over thinking the drivers would be in there but it still did not detect the drive. So where is this drivers then? I looked on this XP cd that's working and I could not find it.

bpl5000, I tried by simply swapping the xp CD with the one that works when i have to press "S" to install the drivers, but it tell me "setup could not find a floppy  drive on your machine to load the OEM drivers from floppy disk", will it be any different if I would simply burn the drivers to CD and swap it?

Thanks again for the help so far.

The $1$ has to come after the $oem$. The sata isn't important, I just used that in case you want further drivers, which would make it more readable and not cause mixups.
Hello again

Well I'm still have problems with finding the correct drivers. Do any of you know where I can find the CORRECT WORKING drivers for this laptop??

Got It!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so the slipstreaming did not work in the end! Fortunately for me  a friend had a USB floppy wich I could borrow and I used that. Thanks rindi for the tip on the Intel ICH chipset. (Mobile Intel® 915 Chipset family) Got the driver and it finally worked with the USB floppy drive.
Even though the slipstreaming did not work I'm glad you guys mentioned it becasue now I know how to do it, even though it is only the very basics. Everyday we learn something new!!!

Cheers
