Network drops out randomly on XP client (server 2003)

HI All, Today is my day to ask lots of questions here on EE!
I have an XP client which randomly loses network connectivity during the course of the day.
Here's the scenario.
Over the course of a day, the client can be using any application (I saw this happen just using windows explorer, but it happens on any app) I have checked with DELL support and ran the diagnostics on the machine with the DELL tech.
I have re-installed the O/S and formatted the disk, and replaced the network card with an aftermarket brand. I have checked all drivers and such, I am leaning towards the motherboard may be faulty on the pci slots? or possibly the ram memory may be faulty?
The one other thing that I would like help looking into is could it be his profile or someting in it on the server?
This machine came across from an NT4.0 domain and the profile was pretty much copied across. It used to happen on the NT4.0 domain as well as the new 2003 server.
