Solidworks 2005 speed issues

We just upgraded our engineers from SW 2004 to SW2005 sp4.  The majority of workstations are 2.4GHz, 2Gb RAM AMD Opterons.  They ran, and still run SW2004 very well.  Models made in SW2005 never release system memory, it keeps going up as more actions are taken, until SW freezes.  We have looked into pagefiles, heap space, windows video settings, solidworks.exe priority, etc......  Our vendor is unable to resolve this, and searches on the web to date do not yeild much promiss.  Any suggestions are appreciated!

Sounds like a bad installation.
What does the SolidWorks Rx show?

Probally won't like this but I would try re-installing.

1. Save all customized SW files (customized materials datbase, added hole wizard options, user created line formats, library features, design library additions, etc...)  macros, templates, sheet formats, etc...
2. Use the "Copy settings wizard" to export all personailzed settings.
3. Uninstall
4. Clean the registry of ALL remaining SolidWorks entries.  (important)

Best results for installation:

5. Install under the local users profile with ADMINISTRATIVE privledges. (Even if temporarily raised and then set back to restricted)
6. Disable ALL anti-virus software for the user at the server level, and kill all related local processes. (There will still be a few running)

7. Use the settings wizard to import from the saved "user.reg" file and replace the default files with the originals saved from above.

ASKER

We do install from Active Directory.  We have had installs that fail, but re-install from AD seems to work.  Also, we will be running the Rx and sending to vendor.  But more interestingly....  there is a feature that we commonly use and for an unknown reason, this seems to cause the problem.  If this is removed, memory problem goes away.  For reference a typical assembly is 25-50mb.  There is nothing special about this feature that we have determined yet (a couple of concentric tapped holes of varying depth)....
