Biggest issues in your day to day work as a web designer

In your day to day work as a web designer, there are probably many things you'd like automated up to a point. There are probably many other things that annoy you and that could be solved by a certain software or tool.

What are your biggest issues you're facing in your day to day work as a web designer?

What tool/helper would you dream of having that could make your life easier? Perhaps you use a color wheel that could be arranged differently to ease your work, perhaps your dream tool is a software that can help automating a repetitive process you do often, anything goes.

What would be the features this tool must have to solve your day to day problems?

Sincerely,
Catalin Ionescu

You are correct with the assumption that I plan to build some web design tools. I've figured instead of building "the tool of the day" I could ask expert web designers what would really help them. As a software developer my primary goal is to help others with the tools I build.

Your W3 validator is a perfect example of this. It's a tool that would make your life a little easier. Do you picture it as a standalone application, where you would copy&paste the HTML code, or would you rather see it as some add-on? Furthermore, would it still suit your purpose if it will do an online check with W3 in the background, or it has to be completely standalone (i.e. work when you're offline)?

What about selecting colors? Do you think there's anything that would help you come up with better color schemes, or do it faster?

Thank you very much for your feedback. Please feel free to add anything you think would help in your day to day work.

Sincerely,
Catalin Ionescu
heatseeker,

in terms of having a W3C validator (personally, i would want the HTML and CSS validators) I would want them as an add-on to my current html editor, or as part of a brand new, fully functioning HTML editor (with all of the features of HTML-Kit).  I would definitely want it to work offline, that way if I were traveling or out of range of the web, I could still guarantee that my code as valid.

I have responded to your thread about color, so you can see my comments there. To be honest, there are lots and lots of color-pickers already out there for free download, so creating a new one probably wouldnt be worth your time (unless you have some revolutionary idea on how to make the existing one's better)
Daniel,

Thank you for the feedback on the W3 validator. Building a fully fledged HTML editor from scratch only to add a feature or two, such as the W3 validator, seems like overkill so it may not be an option :)

Regarding the color pickers, being in this branch for the past two years I know there are lots of them out there. This is why I do have come up with a couple "revolutionary" ideas, but the timing isn't right for publicly discussing about them.

Would you mind if I were to contact you privately in the near future regarding the color picker discussion?

Sincerely,
Catalin Ionescu
I'm hoping that the discussion didn't flow out of the initial topic and this won't be a reason for other experts to avoid jumping in.

I look forward to receiving your feedback on your dream tool/helper. What will make your life easier? What would save you time or energy? If you try and reflect a couple minutes about what you do every day as a web designer, what is the most important thing you would love to have at hand to help you?

Sincerely,
Catalin Ionescu
Catalin, feel free to email me (contact info is in my profile) about that specific idea if you don't feel comfortable discussing it in this forum.  However, I am glad you invited other experts to continue commenting, as we want all experts to have an equal opportunity to earn the points you have offered.

bochgoch, i definitely like your idea of the style checker to make sure your styles are as efficient as possible and such.  great suggestion.!
Yes, it is a very interesting suggestion. bochgoch, thanks for sharing. And no, unfortunately I have no knowledge of a W3 validator as a dowloadable tool.

What's other experts dream tool? Jump in and share your wildest dreams :)

Sincerely,
Catalin Ionescu
