Windows XP to Windows 2003 Server Backups

I have seen in the past that when you log off a windows machine it says please wait and it backups all the files to the server. How can we get it up so in our office when we log off it backups our My Documents, Email, etc? I think this featured is built into Windows XP? Might need Pro.

If you have a step by step website on how to set it up or if you could direct me in the right directions or give me the best way of doing this,

So if i use group policy i can make it backup the files when you log off? I think that is what i want to do.
all you have to do is go to the server and run ntbackup.exe and configure a backup,, select which files you want to backup and schedule when you want it to run, thats it.

if you want this to be done whenever a CLIENT logs off though, you would need to setup some type of logoff script on the client end and initiate the backup from the client end.  I would recommend just doing it from the server side myself.

OR you can do what kshays said and simply store the files on the server.  Data should never be on a client machine in the first place.
If you use group policy you would need to create a shared folder for the "mydocs" on the server first.  Leave the share permissions and NTFS permissions alone on the shared folder and just set the user configuration/windows settings/folder redirection/my documents.  You have to enter in \\servername\share and set the action to "basic" where it creates a folder of the username underneath the shared folder.

What this does is synch and redirects all the users files/folders in the My Documents from their local pc to the shared network folder.  You would then backup this folder nightly or however your backup requirements are like Mikeleebrla suggested.

If you need steps or screenshots i'm sure we could provide some.  It's basically what you feel most comftorable with.

i went to group policy and went to users and windows settings. There is no folder redirect
well that looks good, but the redirect folder is not there. Will this sync when i log off or is this saving all your my documents directly on the server>
Eh?  No redirection folder node there??  Have you got the GPO to view advanced features checked?  That is saving folders directly to the server.  You can also enable offline files to synch when the user loggs off as well.

Have you got the GPO to view advanced features checked >> I do not think so, how do i do that?

You can also enable offline files to synch when the user loggs off as well. -> How can you do that?
Well first make sure in the GPO you click on administrative templates for instance and that "show policies only and show configured policies only" are not checked.  This is editing the GPO normally.  I suppose you are not editing GPO's with the GPMC tool correct?

In the windows explorer you would just click on sharing of the folder and offline files and select whether it should be synched or not.
