Acer Ferrari 4005 - Best Bang for the Buck?

So I'm looking for a desktop replacement laptop with a budget of around $2000 US.

The Acer Ferrari 4005 was the first to pop up on my list of potentials. With the 64bit AMD processor and all the fixings it is one hell of a deal at $2kish. Or am I wrong? Can I get more for my $2,000?

Also, tigerdirect.com has a nice feature that allows customers to pay in 4 installments. That would be fantastic, except that tigerdirect is $250 higher on the price than anyone else (after you add a warranty). Does anyone know of any other place that offers such flexible payment plans (that aren't financed) with better prices?

Thanks for the reply. All the links you posted are decent laptops, but the Acer has them all beat in every single category, and in some categories by quite a bit.

By the time I upgrade the memory (1 gig minimum), hard drive (the acer has 100 gig, and since this will be my primary machine this is important), add bluetooth (not a must, but sure nice!) and (if it were possible) upgrade to the Turion processor, I'd have any of those machines well over $2k.

I'm more wondering if the Acer is a good value than where I can buy cheaper laptops. I just want to make sure that there isn't an HP with virtually identical specs selling for $500 less!

I've always gone the cheap route with laptops before (except with my Powerbook) and I've always lived to regret it!

I've been avoiding Acer since the late 90's because of their low quality and poor designs at that time.
I don't know if they've improved since because I've refused to have one.
But that might explain why it's so much cheaper than the rest...
Not from what I've read. I can't find a single negative review from anyone that didn't have a defective unit on delivery. By all accounts I can find it's a solid (and rather beautiful) machine.

Obviously I'm trying to talk myself out of buying one, but that's not working too well!
As I said I don't know if they've improved since my experiences with them.
Best thing is to google some reviews where actual buyers comment vs some journalist.
