asked on

"Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal reports that it is turned off."

Hello.

My Windows Security Center displays the following message:

"Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal reports that it is turned off."

I see Kaspersky running in the Task Window, but can't get to the user interface to run a scan locally. Their online scan showed that my Temporary Internet Files are infected.  I've deleted these.

I tried to reinstall Kaspersky without 1st uninstalling, but the problem persists.  The unistall doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Greetings, rene_carballo !

Looks like a virus has turned off your AV.  Run an online scanner to remove the virus.

Housecall Online Scan
http://housecall.antivirus.com
or
Symantec Security Check
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Use CCleaner to remove all items from Temp folders
http://www.ccleaner.com

Uninstall Kaspersky in Safe Mode.

Cheers!

ASKER

Thank you war1.  This is very helpful.

I ran Kapersky's online scanner.  It identified, but didn't immunize anything.  I deleted the infected temp files.

Will the Housecall or Symantec do the repair, or just identify the problems.  Are they free?

Any idea why Kaspersky failed to protect me?  Should I abandon Kaspersky altogether in favor of one of these others you recommend?

I had Symantec before Kaspersky.  In fact, I've never managed to remove all traces.  I'm continually accessed by LiveUpdate, and have never managed to part company.  They remind me of the movie "Fatal Attraction."   Should I now give up on Kaspersky and return to Symantec?
