I am going to set up a server on a home machine that is part of a home LAN and I'd like to tailor the OS specifically for my needs. I have been thinking about Gentoo, Debian and LFS. The main objective is to make it easier to fix if it breaks.

Is there one more suitable than the other?
Is there one marginally easier that the other?
Is there another one I should consider?
