Computer frequently freezes/skips for about 3 seconds while playing games.
My computer runs fine when I'm not playing a game but when I am every few seconds my computer will completely freeze for about 3 seconds. My entire coputer freezes and I can tell because if I am playing music that will freeze as well for a few seconds until my computer catches up or whatever it is doing. How can I fix this?
Can you tell us what game you're playing and some specs of your system? It could be anything (as you can see from the suggestions of mwnnj). Perhaps your CPU, memory, graphics card, and PSU will do.
:)

use task manager, (ctrl+Alt+Del) to check what is using your cpu when it freezes, or what application.
Known issues are antivirus .
You can also try disabling items with msconfig at startup :
in run box, type msconfig.
in services tab, clcik hide MS services, then click disable all
in startup tab, click disable all

My specs are:
AMD 3200+
nVidia GeForce 6800GT
2 gigs of ram
I'm not familiar with PSU. I remember something about it from Computer Science class but I forgot....
The games can be anything, but most notably World of Warcraft and the FEAR Demo. My computer should have no trouble running these games, but these little skips are very annoying.
Could this be due to overheating? It doesn't always feel hot but I found one of my fans is not working. I am going to replace it today. I also have very few other fans. But like I said, this just started, why did it not happen before? Though, it was only a day before it started because I just got back to school and set everything up after summer.

>> one of my fans << which one? a case fan or the cpu fan?
i think you'll get an advantage over these freesing issues if you get a better and more powerful psu (power suppy unit) and fix your cooling problems,
remember all dust away, check out the heatsink compound for the cpu,do a clean work -don't pread the compound with finger take a thin plastic piece/ fast the same as for playing a guitar ;) / and spread the heatsing compound ,so you get a thin film over the cpu's upper side, then apply the cleaned heatsink with cooler over the cpu-chip and thus reassemble the whole cpu-cooler,check out the chipset/north bridge if it's getting also too hot, assemble two case coolers -one on the front side and one on the back side, check out the GPU(graphics card ) cooler ,it will be surely hooter thanthe cpu but not more than 65°C,seek for around 50°C+/- 5°C,cuz when plaing games your temapature will increase on the GPU definitely.
stable current/voltages + optimal cooling, then you can go gaming, also make the ram tests just to be sure, check th ewhile wiring, jumper settings, whether every card is well seated inits socket,
note also that there is very importaint comment from nobus-hardware must be optimized ,but this does not finalyse your work, check out your system, you must be aware of which process and which service is running, whats going on when your pc starts up and you boot into desktop.

My psu is 380 and the fan is the fan that goes on the back and blows hot air out. I will have to try all of these and I can get back to you guys. Do you not think 380 is enough? I didn't think so but the store did so I don't know.

According to jscutompcs.com I should be okay by about 60 watts so I will replace my psu as my last try. I am going to replace my heatsink anyway because it's to loud, can anyone recommend a good quiet one that I can pick up at CompUSA? Also, how many other fans should I need?

Well, $70 later on a new heatsink, system fan, and compressed air to clean out the dust it is still skipping while I am playing games, just as frequently.
