I have several Windows 2000 servers with SP4. I tested the latest Windows updates on a test server, because of the latest worms. Everything seemed fine. I updated the live servers with all the latest updates. After updating the servers, several weird things are happening on a few of the servers.
1. Internet Explorer won't work. It will open, but I can't browse the Internet. I can open local web pages, but nothing on the Internet. I've checked the hosts file and everything seems fine. I've reset IE to default settings and it still doesn't work. I installed Mozilla firefox and it works fine.
2. Some services won't start. They just hang and say starting. Other services I can't restart. They hang in the stopping state.
3. Event Viewer hangs on some of the servers. It shows the total # of events, but the items are never displayed.
4. Random windows lockup and I have to end task them. This includes Windows Explorer. I can browse to a folder and sometimes it hangs. Other times it works fine.
I've completed a virus scan and nothing was found. I even downloaded the latest worm removal tools and they weren't found on the servers.
None of these issues were happening before updating Windows. I'm not sure what the latest updates were. I can't access Windows Update to check installation history. Are any of the above "known issues"? What can I do to resolve the issues? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
