EventID:9548 Source:MSExchnageIS Disabled user does not have a master account SID. In event log after deleting users using AD MMC.

A while back we deleted several users using the Active Directory MMC.
Now in our Exchange servers Application Event logs we see the following event for each user that was deleted.

Event ID: 9548
Source: MSExchangeIS

Disabled user /o=<our domain>/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=<username> does not have a master account SID. Please use Active Directory MMC to set an active account as this user's master account.

How do we rectify this issue?

Exchange thinks that the accounts are disabled, not deleted.

If they really were deleted, and no longer show in ADUC then you need to purge them from the mailbox store.

If they are just disabled then you can adjust a permission which stops this error message from appearing. Grant the user "Self" the right "Associated External Account" and the message will no longer show up

How do I purge them from the mailbox store?
Go in to ESM, Servers, <your server>, <your storage group>, Mailbox Store, Mailboxes.
Right click on Mailboxes and choose "Run Cleanup Wizard". The mailboxes will then have a red cross over them. Right click on each mailbox and choose Purge.

Simon.
Thats what I thought.
The users do not appear in the mailbox list.

That means the account still exists somewhere.
I would check all of your domain controllers in case of faulty replication.

Otherwise the accounts didn't delete properly and you are going to have to remove them by hand using ADSIEDIT.MSC.

Simon.
Is there a specific place in ADSIEDIT I should be looking for partially delted users? I've looked in their original locations but am unable to find them.
